Join the Whitehall Historical Society and Whitehall Public Library for a special presentation by curator and social historian Jon-Erik Gilot on his book, John Brown’s Raid: Harper’s Ferry and the Coming of the Civil War.
He’ll speak about the fiery abolitionist who led a band of nineteen men on a nighttime raid of the Federal Arsenal at Harper’s Ferry as part of his holy mission to end slavery in the United States.
Refreshments will be provided.
Bio: Jon-Erik Gilot studied History at Bethany College and for the past fifteen years has made a career in the field of archives, earning a Masters at Kent State in 2011. He is the author of John Brown's Raid: Harpers Ferry and the Coming of the Civil War, October 16-18, 1859. He currently works as an archivist and records manager in Wheeling, West Virginia, where he lives with his wife and daughters. He lives in Wexford, Pennsylvania.
