Event Details

Join us on Thursday, February 27th, as the Whitehall Borough Historical Society welcomes Dr. William Switala, a local resident and esteemed historian, for an engaging presentation on the Underground Railroad in Western Pennsylvania. Dr. Switala will provide a comprehensive overview of the Underground Railroad system, highlighting the critical role played by Allegheny County and the surrounding region in helping enslaved people find freedom.

A retired educator with 39 years of experience in teaching and administration, Dr. Switala has also served as a professor at institutions including the University of Pittsburgh and Duquesne University. He is the author of seven books, including three focused on the Underground Railroad, and has delivered dozens of talks across the mid-Atlantic states. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn about a fascinating chapter of local and national history!
