Program Description

Event Details

Kids in grades 3 and up are invited to join us for Maker Monday! A makerspace is a place for hands-on learning with all the tools for creativity. Every month will have a different theme and different tools for the kids to use. Examples include robotics, 3D pens, circuits, and more! Projects will be hands-on, open-ended and encourage inventiveness and problem-solving skills.

❄️ Robo-Sleigh Design Lab

A STEAM Program for Grades 3 and Up

Get ready to design, build, and race your own robot-powered winter sleigh! In this hands-on STEAM workshop, participants will turn Sphero robots into high-speed holiday (or winter-themed) vehicles.

Students will use creativity, problem-solving, and basic engineering skills to construct lightweight sleighs from craft materials, then attach or pull them using Sphero robots. After a testing phase, everyone will put their creations to the test in friendly challenges like obstacle runs, sleigh stability trials, and speed races.

What We’ll Do

  • Learn how Sphero robots work
  • Design and build a custom sleigh using craft materials
  • Test how shape, weight, and balance affect robot movement
  • Use the Sphero app to drive—or program—your sleigh
  • Compete in fun sleigh-themed challenges

Skills & Concepts

  • Engineering & design thinking
  • Teamwork & iterative testing
  • Creativity & problem solving
