DUE TO WEATHER: event has been moved indoors!

In partnership with the Whitehall Recreation Board, join us for an eclipse themed Family Night. We'll learn about the upcoming solar eclipse and get free eclipse glasses!

The program will start in Snyder Park with up-close viewing of the sun using solar telescopes and other fun eclipse related activities. At 7 PM, we will move to the community room for a solar observing and eclipse talk, given by Larry McHenry.

Mr. McHenry has been active in amateur astronomy for over 40 years and is a member of the Oil Region Astronomical Society (ORAS) in Western Pennsylvania. One of Mr. McHenry's favorite astronomical activities is safely observing the Sun.

This program will include an introduction to solar features visible on our nearest star, the Sun, and safe solar observing techniques, using both white-light and H-alpha solar filters. Additionally, we'll discuss where to go and how to observe the upcoming April 8th, 2024 Total Solar Eclipse.

In case of rain or bad weather, the entire event will be held in the community room. Registration is required.
