“Just living is not enough," said the butterfly, "one must have sunshine, freedom, and a little flower.”  - Hans Christian Anderson, The Complete Fairy Tales

There are about 20,000 species of butterflies globally, and a reported 109 in Allegheny County. How many of them can you lure to your garden and potted plants, helping them to survive?

We welcome back gardening aficionado and former Master Gardener Susan Salis for a special program on these “winged watercolors.”

This colorful talk will:

  • Identify the most common visitors to your garden
  • Discuss the importance of both host and nectar plants
  • Tell you what non-plant aids will attract these delightful insects

Are you ready to be our next star pupa? Register today!

Susan Salis graduated from the Phipps Master Gardener Program, which requires several months of intensive training in all aspects of horticulture, plus ongoing continuing education. Although she has been gardening for over 20 years, Susan still considers herself a student of horticulture and good gardening practices. For her, a garden is always a work in progress, which is why gardening is such a joy. There is always something to learn, to experiment with, and even change your mind about in the quest for a beautiful garden.
