More than entertaining stories to be viewed from a sofa and then benignly forgotten, cinema is an art form rich in expression and worthy of our time and attention.
Join Brandon for a fun discussion of a variety of films from John Wayne to Shirley Temple. Each month, we'll discuss two thematically-paired films and look "behind the scenes" to unpack each their historical significance, stylistic choices, and meanings.
You may laugh, you may cry, you may even raise an eyebrow and wonder "What was that?", but you'll certainly be affected. They don't call 'em moving pictures for nothing!
This month's selections: La Piscine (1969) and Chilly Scenes of Winter (or Head Over Heels) (1979)
Theme: "Weather the Storm"
La Piscine (1969)
When a journalist's (Romy Schneider) boyfriend (Alain Delon) allows her former lover (Maurice Ronet) to drown, the couple must answer questions from an inspector.
Chilly Scenes of Winter (or Head Over Heels) (1979)
Charles (John Heard) meets Laura (Mary Beth Hurt) in the government office where they both work and is instantly smitten. Unfortunately, Laura is not completely unattached but merely separated from her husband. Charles optimistically pursues a relationship with her -- an endeavor made more difficult by his exasperating roommate, Sam (Peter Riegert), and his somewhat daft mother, Clara (Gloria Grahame).
